#SongoftheDay The Model (Kraftwerk)

This song was playing in the background of an episode of Bergerac I was watching the other day. Later on my partner and I were watching something else and one of the characters said something to the effect of, "Why are you all standing around like Kraftwerk?" 

That's when my partner told me he once ended up with a Kraftwerk tape, but it wasn't his and he never listened to it.

The musical equivalent of "I was just holding it for a friend," am I right?

This popped up on my YouTube feed and I kind of couldn't not watch it, you know? Strangely, I had forgotten about the reunion ad from the 90s. You'd think I would remember that one better, considering I watched tons of TV in the 90s, whereas I wasn't even alive in 1971 when the original commercial came out. I actually had a music box that played this song, when I was a kid. No, not a music box. It wasn't a box. My partner is visiting with family, so I've got a New Wave playlist keeping me company.  Eighties music is nostalgic for me. My partner is simply perplexed by it. He would never tell me to turn it off, but I know he's only tolerating my tunes. We both enjoy music from the 60s and 70s, and classical music, so that's what we listen to when we're together. I'm enjoying listening to my eighties music, though. I don't like silence when I'm alone, so it's filling the heatwave airwaves today. You know what? I watched The Munsters all the time when I was a kid, but I remember nothing about it. I remember The Addams Family much better, and I think that's because of the movie that came out in the 90s. My sister was kind of obsessed with it, so that's the monster family that's embedded in my brain. Isn't it wild, being in your forties and your mom still lectures you for things you did when you were an actual child? Actually, I hope this isn't your experience. I hope you have parents who support you instead of shaming you. I hear those parents really do exist! When you grow up in a house of trauma, you never quite believe that there are functional families out there in the world, but I have it on good authority they're out there somewhere. Not here, though! I was talking to my mom earlier (you might have guessed...) and she brought up this incident where an adult asked me if I wanted to do something and I said no, I don't want to do that. It was nothing bad or weird! This adult was one of the only positive role models I had, aside from teachers. I've been feeling too ill to watch anything I haven't seen already. I don't have the cognitive capacity to concentrate when I'm feeling this way. That means rewatching Murder, She Wrote, Midsomer Murders, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, and... Heartbeat! #SongoftheDay This Is How We Do It (Montell Jordan)

Oh man, did I fall down a rabbit hole after yesterday's post. Remember how I couldn't rememember the name of the dance party show that was on when I was a teen? I remembered. It was Electric Circus. So then I started looking for clips from Electric Circus, and I did find some, but I was a teen before internet-times, so the clips available were digitized from people's VCR recordings, complete with starts and ends of commercials. Remember when you'd pause the recording at the commercial, and then you'd try to gauge when was a good time to restart it so that you wouldn't miss any of your show, but you also wouldn't waste too much tape? This was a very nostalgic rabbit hole. But not conducive to video posting for our particular purposes. I came across the 1995 NYE countdown of the top 10 songs, but I don't know if it meant top 10 on Electric Circus or... in a certain genre, or... that part of the recording had been cut, so I can't say for sure. This song has been stuck in my head for two weeks. No idea how it got there. I probably heard it at the supermarket. That's usually how the songs creep in. I found this post in my drafts, obviously written back when my partner still had his house: I'm sitting in the backyard at my partner's place and a cardinal lands on our patio table, which is drenched because it's been raining all day. The cardinal has something in its beak. At first, I'm not sure what. Then it sets the thing down on the tabletop, and I can see that it's a moth. The cardinal plucks off the moth's wings one by one, and they flutter around before sticking to the wet glass table. Once the moth has no wings, the cardinal takes the moth-body in its beak and flies away. This song is playing on the radio.
