#SongoftheDay The Love Boat Opening and Closing

Image
The other day, my partner went out to visit a friend who has had multiple strokes and now resides in an assisted living facility. While my partner was out, I watched The Love Boat. Why? Because it was on. And because I remember watching it as a kid. It was pretty hard to sit through, as an adult. The laugh track, for starters. I found I kept leaving the room. When my partner got home, I asked him how his friend was doing. He said, "He was watching The Love Boat." If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. #SongoftheDay The Twilight Zone Opening

Image
If I'm going to mention The Twilight Zone (as I did yesterday), I should tell you this story: a couple weeks ago my partner and I were at my apartment. I've got a bunch of Twilight Zone episodes on the PVR, so I picked one to watch before bed. It was the episode where William Shatner takes advice from a napkin holder. My partner isn't interested in paranormal stuff (although I would argue that this particular episode is more psychological than paranormal) and at the end he said, "It was interesting to see William Shatner so young. I've never seen that before." I thought he was talking about the episode--he'd never seen that episode before. But no. He had never seen The Twilight Zone! Like, what? Shocking. There are a bunch of different openings for this show, but... here's one. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check t...

#SongoftheDay I Dream of Jeannie Theme Music

Image
Okay, I mentioned I Dream of Jeannie yesterday, and since it's one of my earliest childhood memories, let's listen to the theme music. I was going to say that Dick York was in one of my favourite episodes of The Twilight Zone, but he was on Bewitched, not Jeannie. My brain is very hurting and foggy today, and I'm having trouble typing, so let's leave it at that. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. #SongoftheDay Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers Theme Song (Jeff Pescetto)

Image
I had to stop myself from singing this theme song to my partner in bed the other night--not to serenade him, only because it was stuck in my head. I thought I might be able to remember all the words, but no. In preparing this post, I discovered that Tress MacNeille did the voices of Chip and Gadget on the show. Simpsons fans (and fans of animation, generally) will know the name. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. #SongoftheDay The Three Stooges Cartoon Intro

Image
Apparently my partner watched The Three Stooges growing up (as did I), so his sister bought him a box set of Three Stooges DVDs, which included the Three Stooges cartoon as well. He has no memory of the cartoon. I do, though I have no memory of when it was on TV. The classic Three Stooges episodes were broadcast Sunday afternoons when I was growing up, and my siblings would groan when I insisted on watching them. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. Tina the Talking Tabby Jingle (from Arthur's Perfect Christmas)

Image
I have horrible fatigue and vertigo--basically can't do anything but breathe and cry right now--but I've been listening to the Rifftrax riff of A Talking Cat!?! since 4 this morning. There's a character in the movie named Tina, and I always end up hearing the "Tiny the Talking Tabby" jingle in my head when someone says her name. My baby sister loved Arthur, and forced our family to watch Arthur's Perfect Christmas every year, well into adulthood. Anyway, if I have to suffer, so do you. (sorry) If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. #SongoftheDay Mickey Mouse Club Theme Song

Image
I've been thinking about childhood a lot lately. Last week, I found out one of my old school friends has a horrible form of cancer. She's going to receive treatment at the same cancer care facility where my partner was treated last summer. In fact, she's going to receive treatment in the same radiation department. When I told my partner all this, he said that his own cancer was Mickey Mouse compared to hers. I've got tears in my eyes just telling you this. I found it so generous of my partner to say this, because I was there with him, watching the pain he was in throughout, and the all-consuming fatigue. He forgets all this, now that it's in the past. I can't remember if I mentioned to you that he said, the other week, that he hadn't been in any pain during treatment. Well, I can tell you for certain that that isn't true. I sat with him, watching him cry because he was in so much pain. But he's probably put all that out of his mind for good reason....

#SongoftheDay Searchin' My Soul (Vonda Shepard)

Image
My partner figured out how to play music from his phone through the car speakers. This song is on one of his playlists and the first time it came on, wow, it was the 90s all over again. It occurs to me, watching this video, that it would be very confusing to anyone who hadn't seen Ally McBeal. Or who didn't remember the 90s, for that matter. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. SongoftheDay Mr. Belvedere Theme Song (Leon Redbone)

Image
It was never my intention to inundate you with theme songs from shows from the 80s, but here we have another.  My partner and I watched an episode of McDonald & Dodds called "Belvedere" and I, of course, asked him if he'd ever seen Mr. Belvedere.  He said no. Apparently he had better things to do in the 80s.  Well, I didn't. That's why I can still sing this theme song at you 40 years later.  Anyway, when we paused our show to get more snacks, my partner started describing Mr. Belvedere to me and I was like "You have seen it!"  He said no, he hadn't... but he'd seen the commercials... A likely story. #SongoftheDay Muppet Babies Theme Song

Image
There have been lots of baby birds (okay, child birds) in the backyard lately. One of the bird babies is a grackle, for which I have an odd affection, and every time I see it, I sing "Grackle Baby" to the tune of this song. I'm pretty sure that's not annoying, but you'd have to ask my partner. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. #SongoftheDay Jem And The Holograms Theme Song (Fillip Williams, Lara Eide and Johan Yngvesson)

Image
Until I heard this cover of the Jem And The Holograms theme song, I always thought the words were: We are The Misfits Our songs are bitter ...which made total sense to me. I guess it's true what they say: you never stop learning. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. #SongoftheDay Pure Imagination (Jimmie Herrod)

Image
My partner and I were walking around a small-town fair the other day and a brass band was playing this song. It didn't occur to me right away that this was the song they were playing, at first. I remember just thinking to myself, "Oh, I know this tune. I think it's from a musical or something..." It wasn't until I realized that the fair had a Willy Wonka theme that everything clicked. #SongoftheDay Dallas Theme Music (The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra)

Image
This song popped into my head when I was looking for something to watch and spotted some show about Joan Collins. Turns out Joan Collins was on Dynasty, not Dallas, but this is what my brain does to me these days: when I can't remember a word, it'll give me a word in the same category that starts with the same letter of the alphabet.  If I'm looking for mustard, I'll ask my partner where is the mayonnaise?  My brain doesn't usually give me a theme song, but hey. Why not? If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. #SongoftheDay Bottom of the Pool (Bobby's World)

Image
I have a very meaningful story that relates to this song. Hard to imagine, eh? But that's life. Sometimes you have meaningful stories about silly songs. When I was in middle school, I still watched cartoons. Heck, when I was in high school I still watched cartoons. But we're talking middle school, here, when my friends also watched cartoons because we all had younger siblings and because we just plain liked cartoons. We'd all seen this episode of Bobby's World recently when we went on a class trip to a museum. My friends and I started scream-singing this song as we walked around. We were fourteen and museums were boring and singing loudly was fun. The museum lady came over and gave us a stern lecture, basically telling us to shut the hell up. This was a serious place of learning.  Our teacher, who'd been walking alongside us, rolled her eyes at the museum lady. Our teacher rolled her eyes! At a museum lady! Who was getting us in trouble! You know how sometim...

#SongoftheDay Cheez Whiz Adds Personality (1987 TV Commercial)

Image
This probably should have been our song of the day yesterday, when we were actually talking about Cheez Whiz. But after I scheduled that post, I asked my partner if he remembered this Cheez Whiz commercial. He said no (I watched a lot more TV than he did in the 80s and 90s), but he definitely remembered the song. That is to say, the original song called Personality, which was our song of the day yesterday. Not only did he remember the song, but he went on to sing the chorus AND do the dance moves. What? My partner does not sing and dance. This is pretty much unprecedented. Who knew he had personality? Ha! If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. #SongoftheDay The Rosemary and Thyme Caprice (John Williams)

Image
I've been re-watching the British TV show Rosemary and Thyme again, even though I re-watched every episode a month ago. There are only three seasons, but I like repetition.  I always say the appeal of this show is the fantasy of having a friend and doing gardening and solving murders, but I re-watched the first episode last night (I don't usually watch the first episode--not sure why), and I realized that the biggest appeal of this show, for me, is probably the fantasy of making a new friend later in life.  The idea that I could meet someone new and form an instant bond and we could be besties and run a business together... it actually seems beyond impossible when I say it out loud. I find it so, so hard to make friends. But maybe that's why so many of us love this little show? I don't know. There's a lot to love about it. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for ...

#SongoftheDay Worst Song Ever

Image
It's April Fools' Day, but this song is no joke. It will get stuck inside your ear holes and you'll never get it out. You will die humming this tune. They will play it at your funeral. If you join me in my personal hell, we'll spend eternity listening to this jingle on repeat. Do you make a mad dash for the remote when this commercial comes on? I sure do. But I'm not into trickery, so I didn't lure you here by pretending I was going to share the BEST song of all time. This Kars4Kids is the absolute worst. #SongoftheDay Putt Putt for the Fun of It (1980s Commercial)

Image
This ad used to play on the American TV channels we got when I was a kid. My cousin and I sang this jingle constantly, laughing our little heads off, because in my family the word "fart" was basically a swear word. We did not say it. We had to say "putt" instead. So to hear this TV commercial advocating farting for fun was just the most hilarious thing we could think of. Ah, to be six again... #SongoftheDay Inspector Gadget Theme

Image
My partner and I were just doing a crossword puzzle where one of the answers was "gadget" and my partner instantly said, "Inspector Gadget! My kids loved that show."  I loved that show too, though I remember almost nothing about it except that the Get Smart guy did the inspector's voice, and he had a niece named Penny. I thought Penny was a cool name, when I was a kid. I never met a Penny until I was in high school and a friend's mother went by Penny--short for Penelope. My friend laughed that once a telemarketer called and obviously wasn't familiar with the name Penelope, because he asked for "Pen-elope." Like you're going to elope with a pen.  If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. #SongoftheDay Hetty Wainthropp Investigates Theme by Nigel Hess (London Film Orchestra, soloist Phillip McCann)

Image
I'm in pain and seeking out the coziest of cozies. Hetty Wainthropp is way up there. I'm in bed with BritBox, hoping I'll come across an episode I missed on TV, but I'm pretty sure I've seen them all. Rewatching the later ones anyway. No reason not to. I was such a fan of Keeping Up Appearances, and Hetty Wainthropp felt like an odd continuation of that show--like, if Hyacinth were actually nice to Richard, and they took in a stray teenager and opened a detective agency?  It's basically the same show, if you look at it that way. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely.
