 Even though I'm not a religious person, I really like the idea of Lent. Making a change for 40 days is an interesting way to test the waters of a new life.  The first time I gave Lent a go (which was probably only two or three years ago), I decided to give up meat. It went really well.  It went so well that I thought I might just give it up forever.  I went back pretty fast, after forty days were up, but it was still a worthwhile exercise. I don't remember what I gave up last year, but this year I've decided to take a break from social media during Lent.  There should be more songs about Mercury Retrograde, because it's the worst.  Well, this one is the worst--perhaps because it's in my sign of Aquarius. This track was featured in a donor appreciation communication I received from  SKETCH Working Arts , which is a studio (and so much more) for young people living on the margins here in Toronto. One of the things I miss most, now that we're living in COVID-times, is going to art fairs and buying from young artists. I've met quite a few creatives who came up through SKETCH and have great things to say about their programs. I'm proud to be a donor. A lot of people who earn way more money than I do find it impossible to believe that you can be a low-income earner and still donate money to organizations you believe in and still purchase "frivolous" items like... art. This song came up on a lo-fi Spotify playlist I put on today. I used to listen to all sorts of music while writing. Can't do it anymore. I find music with lyrics too distracting now. Usually, I put on piano music if I need background noise. Today, piano music wouldn't cut it.
