 I've had this song in my head since last week, when I heard McArthur Park on the radio. Then last night, my partner and I watched a documentary about sea creatures around Cocos Island The narrator mentioned that this was the spot that had inspired the fictional location of Jurassic Park. That sealed it: I was destined to bring you this song today. 

btw I remember watching this music video for the first time at a friend's house. I can't remember which friend. It was on a little TV in somebody's basement. Not much of a memory, is it?

I've got Covid

Hi Friends, Turns out the reason I've been so sick is that I have Covid. I tested negative two days ago, but this morning the test came back positive. I'm in a lot of pain--especially my throat and my head, at the moment--and the pain in my eyes is making it very hard to look at this screen.  So I'm going to take some time off, here, while I recover. When I can comfortably look at my screen and I have the energy to return, you know I'll be back. I do still own this CD. I bought it when it first came out (in 1999? Wow...) and I remember being so proud of it. When I had my best friend over for dinner at my first apartment, I played this album and she was like, "Ugh, turn it off! I HATE baroque music!" heh It came to mind the other week when I was isolating my diseased self at my apartment and my partner was three hours away at his house. He wrote me an email one evening to tell me the classical radio station we listen to had just played Karina Gauvin singing Where'er You Walk, and it brought him to tears.  I wonder if you've ever experienced this: you're in a relationship, or even a friendship, and you get interested in something the other person is into, and after a while you start asking yourself if you're genuinely interested in this thing, or if you only like it because they do. That's how I felt about Star Trek, when I was in a relationship with Sweet. Sweet was a hardcore Trekker (not Trekkie!). I mentioned the other day that there were more sad posts to come.  Well, here we go. One of my cats has been very sick and I had to have him put down the other day.   Can't get much sadder than that. Yesterday I told you about my partner's favourite number from the jazz festival. This one was mine. I'd never actually heard it before and had no idea it was a jazz standard (despite the fact that I listened to a jazz radio station for years). I had to do a bit of digging to find out who was the vocalist on this 1926 (yes, that's almost 100 years ago) track (her name is May Alix) and that led me down a slight rabbit hole, where I discovered that "butter and egg man" was 1920s slang for a big spender: a travelling salesman who spent his cash freely at nightclubs. At the jazz festival, various people were dancing to the Dixieland band--most notably, a man who looked (and dressed) exactly like Colonel Sanders.
