#SongoftheDay Stereophonic Sound from Silk Stockings (Janis Paige, Fred Astaire)

By
This song popped into my head just now. Not sure why. Not even sure why I remember it so well. Before today, I'd only ever heard it once, when I watched the movie Silk Stockings on TV as a teenager. It felt like a classic, to me, but I'm not actually sure if too many people have seen it.

And, in fact, this song is the only thing I remember about the movie.

You'll have to turn your volume up-up-up to hear this one.

If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.

Supporting my AudioErotica endeavour on Patreon would also help me hugely.

#SongoftheDay Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes (Paul Robeson)

By

I've been falling asleep to an episode of Midsomer Murders called The Silent Land for the past... oh, three months? (I like repetition) and that episode begins with Joyce and Cully at a music concert of what Cully refers to as "all that folky stuff."  The song we hear performed is this one.  Cully doesn't like this music and she's squirming and rolling her eyes as the performer is singing. I don't buy that a professional actor would be so rude.  I used to work in a theatre, and the actors there are the people who taught me how to be a good audience member. When I say "good" I guess I actually mean "engaged" because the actors taught me to laugh and react, to give the performers on stage energy to work with.  So I don't buy a character who is supposed to be a stage actor being sullen and rude, even if she wasn't enjoying the show.  Anyway, that's my random episode of Midsomer Murders deep dive for the day. I chose Paul Robeson to...

#SongoftheDay Here's That Rainy Day (Wes Montgomery)

By

I was raised to be frugal, and it worked. All my life, I've been frugal beyond frugal--you could call me "cheap," even.  It would be true. I was taught to save for a rainy day, and that's what I've always done.  My annual earnings are low (consistently well below the poverty line) to the point that my tax accountant thinks I'm hiding something from him.  I'm not. But he gives me deep discounts because he says I can't afford him. He's right.   At least I can claim his services... on my taxes. But I didn't come here to talk about taxes.  I came here to talk about rainy days. When I started saving, I thought I would one day buy a house. Well, now I'm middle-aged and there are parking spots in Toronto I still couldn't afford. I realized long ago that my savings were there for that day when everything fell apart. Then Covid struck, and I realized the rainy day was here--only, it wasn't my rainy day.  I'm one of the lucky ones. I alr...

#SongoftheDay Take a Letter, Maria (R.B. Greaves)

By

This song has been stuck in my head for two weeks. No idea how it got there. I probably heard it at the supermarket. That's usually how the songs creep in. Last night I rewatched The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert again. Lo and behold, this song popped up. I felt like an old friend had appeared on screen.  If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  See you soon! #SongoftheDay Hey, Soul Sister (Train)

Oh, I... don't like this song. BUT it's earworm-level catchy, so it's been stuck in my head since I scheduled yesterday's post. I don't think I need to explain why, but I will anyway:    Yesterday we listened to Mr. Mister, and so obviously my brain kept going: "Ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio?"   If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  See you soon! #SongoftheDay Horn of the Clock-Bike (Saul Williams)

By

I heard, the other day, that Tanya Tagaq's upcoming album is being produced by Saul Williams . All I can say is I can't wait to dive into the art they create together. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and visits every day, the easiest thing you can do is tell your friends about the site. Tell anyone you know--particularly people who are isolated and enjoy music. Readers of adult fiction can also buy my books or check them out from your local library. Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely! But you don't HAVE to do any of that. I'm very happy to get a daily visit from you, so just keep coming back. Oh, and I also recommend hitting the "Subscribe" button at the top of the page so you won't miss a song! See you tomorrow! Giselle

#SongoftheDay I've Tried Everything (Eurythmics)

By
Image
I have been incredibly ill. Emergency room, IV fluids, diagnostic equipment, more meds.  I'm so sorry for taking off without letting you know what was going on, but there are times when it can't be helped. I've missed sharing music with you. I think in terms of posts I want to write, but for a while I couldn't come near my computer. Now I don't remember what I wanted to say. Figures, eh? This song came into my mind at a time when I truly believed I would never get better. Time and treatment didn't seem to make any difference. I was just so sick all the time. At this point, I don't know whether I'm "better" or whether the new medication I'm on is just keeping me stable. More medical appointments to come.  Meanwhile, various other portions of my life are falling apart. Not my relationship. That's strong. My partner has been taking good care of me physically, and I'm trying to take good care of him emotionally, but now is not a happy t...

#SongoftheDay Blue Skies (Ella Fitzgerald)

By

My partner took me to see Death of a Salesman at Stratford for my birthday. I think it was one of those gifts that was actually for him, since I don't need any additional encouragement to feel massively depressed, but we'll set that aside because he bought me a delicious pizza afterwards. Anyway. The production used this tune throughout the performance. It was played on a trumpet, which happens to be the instrument I learned when I took band class in middle school. Have I ever told you that? I don't think I have. I was really good at it, too. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  See you soon! #SongoftheDay I'm Getting Sentimental Over You (Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra)

By
Image
I've been feeling so sick the past few days that I've barely had the energy to watch TV--and that's saying something. Watching TV isn't exactly a gruelling task. But one of my meds has been making me sick to my stomach, and after days of this I am just so weak. It's times like this when I realize how much my partner does to take care of me and to take care of our surroundings when I'm unwell. I'm noticing how much he does because he's not here. He's at his house; I'm at my place. And my place is a mess because I don't have the energy to clean it properly. Now I'm realizing that usually, when I'm sick, he does the dishes, he dries them and puts them away so we don't have a kitchen full of dirty dishes. Normally when I'm sick to my stomach, he runs to the bathroom with me and holds my hair. If my hair is pulled back, he pets my head because he says he doesn't know what else to do. But clearly he does know what to do, beca...

#SongoftheDay The Weight (The Band ft. The Staples Singers)

By

Robbie Robertson died last week. You probably know that by now, but it hit my partner pretty hard. He loved The Band. He owns The Last Waltz, the concert recording from which this clip was taken, on DVD. We've watched the second half of the film Once Were Brothers twice on TV. Each time we tuned in late and missed the start. Just another excuse to watch it again, this time from the beginning. "Somewhere Down the Crazy River" is a Robbie Robertson song I love, but it has already been our song of the day. It reminds me of late nights at the cottage, playing board games with my family, and it comes on the radio and it tells you you're ready for sleep. If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.  Supporting my  AudioErotica  endeavour on  Patreon  would also help me hugely. #SongoftheDay Pinky and the Brain Theme Song (Postmodern Jukebox Cover)

By
Image
Whether you were a child in the 90s or an adult who just happened to enjoy a quality animated series, you probably loved Pinky and the Brain as much as I did. Cartoons really spoke to me, when I was a kid. My household was plagued by domestic violence, and I swear there were times when cartoons saved me.  I had Strawberry Shortcake bedsheets and a Smurfs blanket, and when the world was crashing down outside my door (literally--there was a lot of crashing in my house), I would burrow under the covers and pretend I was in Cartoon World with all my favourite characters. I know that sounds like a bummer of a story, but take it as encouragement, especially if you're a creator like me. Sometimes, when the world is crashing down at our feet, writing erotica (or whatever it is you do--I don't know your life) just doesn't seem all that important. But I can GUARANTEE you the thing you're creating will alleviate someone's pain, somewhere, somehow.  Never quit creating. ...
