My partner has been asked to speak at the memorial service for a lifelong friend who died last month. They'd known each other since they were babies. He is currently working on what he'd like to say, and he's listening to Paul Simon. The last time I walked into the kitchen, this was playing and my partner said, "I love this song." I asked what he loved about it and he said, "Lots of things. But it's about putting a child to bed. What could be better than that?"

If you're of my generation, you might know this tune as the theme song from Married With Children.  I'm sure I've mentioned in the past that I wasn't "allowed" to watch Married With Children. I remember it airing daily in syndication, maybe at 11 at night?  No, 11:30.  I know I shouldn't joke about having been neglected as a child, but you'll often catch me saying it was really easy to get away with watching shows I wasn't supposed to watch when there were no conscious/sober adults around. So I did watch Married With Children more often than I should have, even though I didn't like it. This song was playing in the background of a party scene on an episode of Bergerac I watched the other day. When I looked it up, I realized I never knew what it was actually called. I have always misheard the lyrics as "we know the night..."  This is my first time listening with headphones. Yeah, with headphones it definitely sounds like "because" and not "we know."  Seeing the title spelled out also helps. I'd completely forgotten this song existed until I heard an ice cream truck playing it the other day. Okay, so the ice cream truck wasn't actually playing this song. It was playing some other song that reminded me of this song, but close enough. I read an article about something called a Death Cafe, which is a hosted event for people who are close to death. They can attend to talk about death in an open way. A lot of people find it easier to talk to strangers about their own impending death, because talking to family or friends is so fraught with emotion.
