#SongoftheDay Just a Gigolo (Village People)
My partner and I heard a big band perform this number the other day, and it reminded me of a friend I had in high school--not because he's a gigolo (I don't think he is, but we haven't kept in touch) but because this is the first song I ever heard him sing. He was very talented. He went on to become a professional actor, but I'm not sure what he's up to these days.
I've been singing this song around the house, and when I actually think about the words, it occurs to me that this is one of those upbeat tunes that are really depressing when you stop and think about them. Lots of songs from the 50s are like that (not that this song is from the 50s--it was actually written in the 1920s, I believe, and popularized in the 50s).

Fortunately, I have the uncanny ability to sing lyrics without ever thinking about them. I can (and usually do) also listen to songs without processing the words. My partner thinks this is weird. I don't know if it is. We'll have to do a study one day.
If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and anecdotes, the easiest thing you can do is buy my books (most are for adults only!) or check them out from your local library.
