#SongoftheDay E is for Estranged (Owen Pallett)

For most people, the music that is most meaningful is the music we listen to at formative stages in our lives--childhood and teen years in particular, possibly into our twenties.  That music generates an easy emotional resonance.

We need to work harder if we want to stay in touch with new music as we get older.

I've got Owen Pallett to thank for setting me down the road to many of the younger artists I listen to now. He used to be very active on Twitter, and one time he mentioned Katie Dey. So I started listening to her music and following her on Twitter.

At the time, Katie Dey was working on her first collaboration with Devi McCallion, so that's how I started listening to Girls Rituals, and of course Black Dresses with Ada Rook.

Following Black Dresses on Twitter, I became aware of Rook&Nomie.  These are all artists we've listened to her on the music blog.

Then they tweeted about Backxwash, so I started listening to her, too.  And I believe it was Backxwash who led me to the queer Filipina collective Pantayo, which is what I've been listening to all day long.

Many of these brilliant musicians hadn't been born yet, when I was at my formative musical age.  That, or they were young children. But, thanks to my agemate Owen Pallett and a recommendation on Twitter, I've been able to follow this beautiful path of young artists and listen to music that hadn't been dreamt of when I was a kid.

By the way, I was once in the same room as Owen Pallett when he was deejaying the afterparty of his first violin concerto, but I was too awed to actually approach him. I just stared at him like a creepy perv for, like, 15 minutes, then I walked away.

If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and visits every day, the easiest thing you can do is tell your friends about the site. Tell anyone you know--particularly people who are isolated and enjoy music.

Readers of adult fiction can also buy my books or check them out from your local library. Supporting my AudioErotica endeavour on Patreon would also help me hugely!

I'm also an Amazon Influencer, so hopefully I can make a little pocket change when you buy stuff by clicking through my affiliate links.

But you don't HAVE to do any of that. I'm very happy to get a daily visit from you, so just keep coming back.

Oh, and I also recommend hitting the "Subscribe" button at the top of the page so you won't miss a song!

See you tomorrow!
