#SongoftheDay High School Confidential (Rough Trade)

Imagine me as a little queer teen--diminutive in size, but often lectured for being "too loud"--sitting in English class. I'm in my final year of high school.  My teacher is leading a discussion about a tongue-in-cheek Margaret Wente article called "I Want a Wife."

The article is supposed to be funny because she can't have a wife--she's a lady. Men are so lucky because they have these live-in cooks/maids/accountants called wives. If only ladies like Margaret Wente could have wives too, haha!  Wouldn't life be joyous?

I remember feeling irritated and frustrated and confounded for reasons I couldn't yet articulate. Friends was the most popular show in TV, and there'd already been a lesbian wedding in one episode. Was the author of this article not aware that lesbians were a thing? That women could have wives--perhaps not legally, but at least in spirit? Because the basic premise of her article was that they couldn't.  If she took lesbians into account, the title "I Want a Wife" wouldn't be funny, it would just be a statement.

I'll never forget the erasure I felt in that classroom, as everyone discussed the article without touching on any of the thoughts that went flying through my brain.

Did I speak up?

I wish I could tell you.  I honestly don't remember.

If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and visits every day, the easiest thing you can do is tell your friends about the site. Tell anyone you know--particularly people who are isolated and enjoy music.

Readers of adult fiction can also buy my books or check them out from your local library. Supporting my AudioErotica endeavour on Patreon would also help me hugely!

I'm also an Amazon Influencer, so hopefully I can make a little pocket change when you buy stuff by clicking through my affiliate links.

But you don't HAVE to do any of that. I'm very happy to get a daily visit from you, so just keep coming back.

Oh, and I also recommend hitting the "Subscribe" button at the top of the page so you won't miss a song!

See you tomorrow!
Giselle
