Yesterday I mentioned that MST3K plays a huge role in battling depression, for me. Actually, "battling" isn't the right word. I don't battle it. It's part of my life. I'm not sure I'm even "coping" with it. "Living" with it is more my style. We've been living together for nearly 20 years. In that time, I've learned there are certain things I can do to make it through the day.

Watching reruns of Wipeout is on that list. Because watching people fall down is funny.  And hearing people make fun of people who fall is also very funny. This show lifts my mood tremendously.

The other day I watched one of the Blind Date episodes, where contestants had to run a disco-themed course. Because things were being thrown at contestants' heads, one of the commentators said, "Disco--DUCK!"

And this 70s classic has been stuck between my ears ever since. (I loved it, as a kid--what kid wouldn't?)

I have been incredibly ill. Emergency room, IV fluids, diagnostic equipment, more meds.  I'm so sorry for taking off without letting you know what was going on, but there are times when it can't be helped. We're moving next week. We're not happy about the move, but it's happening nonetheless. I'm going to miss this little house. I know how fortunate I am to live indoors at all, but the past three years have been the only time in my entire adult life when I've been able to live in a house, and going back to living in a high rise isn't something I'm enthusiastic about. The house and town (despite being very small--both the house and the town) are way too expensive to live in. Plus, there's the lack of access to medical care and public transportation.  So we're moving. I'm really sad. And stressed. And busy with all the packing. And my health is poor, as usual. Ill health makes sadness and stress even harder to cope with. That's the big reason I haven't been around.  I had an episode of The Simpsons on last week called Lady Bouvier's Lover, I think?  It's the one where Grandpa Simpson courts Marge's mother. I've referred to it often during Covid, because it's got that one scene where Grandpa goes into the retirement home to grab Mrs. Bouvier and he comes out with the wrong woman, and that old lady says, "Can I come too?"   You know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I quote that line a lot, these days. I've got nothing going on, so any time my partner is going anywhere, I'm right on that "Can I come too?" I've got Covid

Hi Friends, Turns out the reason I've been so sick is that I have Covid. I tested negative two days ago, but this morning the test came back positive. I'm in a lot of pain--especially my throat and my head, at the moment--and the pain in my eyes is making it very hard to look at this screen.  So I'm going to take some time off, here, while I recover. When I can comfortably look at my screen and I have the energy to return, you know I'll be back. I was watching a murder mystery the other day, and the detective found a clue in the victim's journal: it was an ancient sepia photograph of the woman when she was a child. The photograph was dated... 1984. 1984? Okay, speaking as someone who was also a child in 1984, I can tell you that none of my childhood photos are sepia-toned! I do have quite a few black-and-white pictures of my sister and myself, but that's just because my father was kind of artsy with his camera and he would sometimes buy black-and-white film. But the vast majority of photos taken in 1984 were in full colour. Definitely not sepia! I wondered how old the prop person on that TV show was, and if they thought photography in 1984 was basically the same as photography in 1884. This is a cover of a Bowie song, by the way. A lot has changed since I first created this blog. Even more changes happened while the blog was on hiatus. Most notably, my partner was diagnosed with cancer. He is currently receiving treatments, the side effects of which make every day incredibly arduous. When you become a caregiver, everybody tells you that you have to take care of yourself first--the whole oxygen mask thing. Even my partner tells me I need to take care of myself first, particularly because I have chronic health conditions that make it almost impossible to function some days. It feels kind of ridiculous sometimes, the two of us trying to take care of each other when we're both sick. We need so much help, and right now we have nothing. All we've got is each other. Every time someone tells me to take care of myself first, I wonder how I'm supposed to do that when my partner's needs are so immediate and life-or-death. He is not a demanding person.
