#SongoftheDay Never Gonna Give You Up (Rick Astley)
A couple years ago, my partner and I were invited to spend a few days at our friends' cottage. Our friends are older than me by nearly twenty years. Everyone I know seems to be older than me. Anyway. They don't have internet service at their cottage, but our one friend told me she'd downloaded some playlists onto her phone. She asked me what I'd like to listen to.
I said 80s music.
The look she gave me... how do I even describe it? She looked at me as though she had never heard of 80s music. It was a look like: did they even make music in the 80s?
She seemed absolutely confounded.
Eventually, she said, "I have 60s music."
And that was fine. That's what we listened to. Her husband and I sang along while we washed dishes. It was fun.
I later realized she had 60s music on her phone because that was the music she grew up with. Just like 80s music was the music I grew up with. I also listened to music from the 60s in the 80s, so both of those decades are highly nostalgic for me.
The other realization I came to, later on, was that if someone twenty years younger than I am asked me to play 2000s music (is that what it's called?), I would give them the same look my friend gave me. Because I have no idea what 2000s music is. Isn't that the music of now? I honestly do not know. As I mentioned the other day, I haven't listened to pop music since the 90s.
I'll have to make some younger-than-me friends so they can teach me about the music of their generation.
Supporting my AudioErotica endeavour on Patreon would also help me hugely.

I also recommend subscribing to my newsletter. I generally e-mail subscribers with a weekly update, and I would LOVE to have you on the list.
