I've got Covid

Hi Friends, Turns out the reason I've been so sick is that I have Covid. I tested negative two days ago, but this morning the test came back positive. I'm in a lot of pain--especially my throat and my head, at the moment--and the pain in my eyes is making it very hard to look at this screen.  So I'm going to take some time off, here, while I recover. When I can comfortably look at my screen and I have the energy to return, you know I'll be back. I do still own this CD. I bought it when it first came out (in 1999? Wow...) and I remember being so proud of it. When I had my best friend over for dinner at my first apartment, I played this album and she was like, "Ugh, turn it off! I HATE baroque music!" heh It came to mind the other week when I was isolating my diseased self at my apartment and my partner was three hours away at his house. He wrote me an email one evening to tell me the classical radio station we listen to had just played Karina Gauvin singing Where'er You Walk, and it brought him to tears. We've listened to Where'er You Walk here on more than one occasion, because it's a song that holds meaning for my partner. I'd completely forgotten this song existed until I heard an ice cream truck playing it the other day. Okay, so the ice cream truck wasn't actually playing this song. It was playing some other song that reminded me of this song, but close enough. I read an article about something called a Death Cafe, which is a hosted event for people who are close to death. They can attend to talk about death in an open way. A lot of people find it easier to talk to strangers about their own impending death, because talking to family or friends is so fraught with emotion. One of the topics they discussed at the death cafe was: what sounds would you like to hear while you are dying? (reminds me of Soylent Green...)  Most people said: birds, nature, children's laughter.  I wonder if you've ever experienced this: you're in a relationship, or even a friendship, and you get interested in something the other person is into, and after a while you start asking yourself if you're genuinely interested in this thing, or if you only like it because they do. That's how I felt about Star Trek, when I was in a relationship with Sweet. Sweet was a hardcore Trekker (not Trekkie!). I watched various Star Treks at her house, while we were dating, because that's all that was ever on.  I watched TNG in the 90s because it was on every day in syndication and I thought Patrick Stewart was hot af. I'm not sure I ever asked myself whether I liked the show, even once I'd seen every episode multiple times.  A few years ago, I started watching Voyager on Netflix. #SongoftheDay Song for the Mira (Cape Breton Chorale, Brian McIntosh soloist)

I'm just about done proofreading my book "Sharing the Nanny." There's a character in this series ( The Boss and the Nanny ) named Mira, so, naturally, this song is stuck in my head. Not complaining, because I have such a nostalgic love of the piece. When I was a kid, I sang in a choir. Our accompanist was a Cape Bretoner, and she was the one who pushed for us to perform Song for the Mira. I'm pretty sure she knew the composer, Allister MacGillivray. It was practically written for her, as someone who'd moved away from home and experienced that deepseated longing to return to the place she'd grown up. Our choir actually did record this lovely piece, but that was long before the days of the internet, so it's not available anywhere online (trust me--I've checked!).
