#SongoftheDay Love Hurts (Roy Orbison)

I seem to be sending out a lot of songs to the dead, these days. The dead are on my mind all the time.

If you'd asked me fifteen years ago--when my father died--if I would ever write any sort of tribute to him, I'd have laughed in your face. I didn't help with his obit. I didn't drive out to the town where he died to help sort through his things. My brother told me there was blood everywhere. His apartment was rancid. Nobody cleans that up for you.

Though I didn't help with the funeral arrangements, I did pay for my father's funeral.  But I did that as a fuck-you to a family member I haven't spoken to since. There are some lovely individuals in my father's family, but there are some money-grubbing assholes over there, too.

You know how they say time heals all wounds? I wonder if that's true. While I haven't held on to the anger and bitterness I once held against my father, I'm still dealing with the trauma that comes from growing up in a household plagued by substance abuse and domestic violence.

Yesterday I talked a bit about the perspective I've gained since my cousin's death, which was only two years ago. It's been more than a decade since my father died. I've had a lot more time to process my feelings, which is hard, because they're so interwoven with childhood trauma.

I wish I knew why he behaved the way he did. I've got so few clues, and no one left to ask.

My father was a musician.  He loved music.  I got that from him, and I'm grateful, because music has saved my life more than once.  Music has saved my life many, many times.

My dad was a huge Elvis fan. He played a lot of Roy Orbison, too, so this one goes out to him. May he rest in peace.

If you're wondering how you can support me in bringing you songs and visits every day, the easiest thing you can do is tell your friends about the site. Tell anyone you know--particularly people who are isolated and enjoy music.

Readers of adult fiction can also buy my books or check them out from your local library. Supporting my AudioErotica endeavour on Patreon would also help me hugely!

I'm also an Amazon Influencer, so hopefully I can make a little pocket change when you buy stuff by clicking through my affiliate links.

But you don't HAVE to do any of that. I'm very happy to get a daily visit from you, so just keep coming back.

Oh, and I also recommend hitting the "Subscribe" button at the top of the page so you won't miss a song!

See you tomorrow!
